Wind chimes can be traced back for thousands of years. Early wind chimes were constructed of bamboo, shells, and bones and were used in fields to scare away birds or animals.
Over the years Asian cultures, especially, started crafting the more musical versions and hung them in temples, pagodas, and homes to welcome good spirits and scare away evil spirits.
During the 1800's Asian art started to move into Europe and the United States and the Western world was introduced to wind chimes. Feng-Shui helped spread the use of wind chimes to promote the balance of energies, and they have become popular ever since.
Today's wind chimes not only produce melodic and relaxing sounds, they are also beautiful in appearance.
